ASH Taylor fired a late winner as Swindon Supermarine got back to winning ways in Southern League Division One South & West with a narrow 1-0 success at lowly Barnstaple Town tonight.

Dave Webb’s side were held to a goalless draw at Paulton Rovers on Saturday and another stalemate looked to be on the cards until Taylor struck with seven minutes to go.

  • HIGHWORTH TOWN made it six Hellenic Premier Division wins in a row with a 4-2 success away at Brimscombe & Thrupp.

Tony Joyce gave the Worthians an early lead but the hosts levelled the scores before the break.

Keiron Gleed put Jeff Roberts’ side back in front not long after the restart but once again, Brimscombe were quick to restore parity.

Highworth were finally able to take control of the contest in the closing stages and took the lead for a third time through Fabian McCarthy before Aysa Corrick sealed the win late on.

Meanwhile, Highworth’s Premier Division rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town will be hoping to strike it lucky on the third attempt when they travel to Bradford Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Wednesday tonight.

Bassett’s trip to Toolstation League side Bradford, which has been pencilled in for both November 23 and 30, has twice been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and frozen surface respectively.

However, the two teams are set to finally meet at Trowbridge Road tomorrow evening (kick-off 7.30pm) for the right to go to Highworth in the quarter-finals on December 14.

Bassett manager Rich Hunter said: “We want to try and do well in all of the cup competitions.

“Bradford are a good team. They’ve got some good technical players, so we know we’re in for a tough game.

“We’re going to go there and if we play to our potential, we know that we can win – we should be looking forward to it.”
