THE West Country League for 2016 concluded with the grand finals held at the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics in Melksham.

Following success in the 2015 League, Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics earned themselves promotion into Division Two and for 2016 entered teams into all three leagues – A, B and C – for the first time.

The A league is for team members under 11 years and the team of Chloe Searle, Katherine Allday, Summer Taylor, Leah Bishop and Florrie Strange finished in seventh place on the day, and sixth in the league.

For the B League, the team average age must not exceed 13 years and the difficulty requirements are increased across all apparatus. The team of Sophie Townsend, Ellie Treacy, Emily Macklin-Day, Eva Falcone-Healy and Freya Gleed had to count all performances on three out of the four pieces of apparatus due to an injury to Gleed, who could only contribute on the bars at the finals.

The team finished fourth at the final competition and second in the league for 2016.

Treacy placed first on the floor exercise and second on the vault, while Townsend took third on the floor.

The C League team, competing to full international competition rules and requirements, saw Katie Strange, Mia Wright, Kelsey Stokes, Lauren Searle and Jenny Francklin finished with their third league victory of the year and, along with Maisie Russell, who was injured before the final, took the Division 2 C League title.

Stokes placed first on balance beam and floor exercise, and shared the top spot on the vault with Searle. Mia Wright took the top spot on the bars.
