FAIRFORD Town boss Gareth Davies says that his side are eager to get back on the pitch this weekend as they visit Cheltenham Saracens.

Davies’ men were last in action in late November in a 3-1 away win over Bristol Telephones in the Gloucestershire FA Challenge Trophy, and have since been replaced at the top of Division One West by Hook Norton.

“We didn’t have a game last weekend, so we have just been twiddling our thumbs waiting for the weekend and then it is all go then,” said Davies.

“It’s a little bit frustrating because consistency is key. The last few weeks, we have had one on, and one off.

“We do try and give the players time off because a rest doesn’t do anybody any harm but you could see at training on Tuesday that people just want to get back playing. “There is nothing better than a game. They’ve had a couple of weeks off to charge their batteries and focus on Cheltenham.

“There is only so much training that you can do and I think we want to get cracking now.”

This weekend’s opponents are struggling with form of late as they go into the game on the back of a 12-0 thumping at the hands of Abingdon United.

“I know it is Cheltenham Saracens and they’re having a bit of a transitional period but we don’t take anything lightly,” added the Fairford boss.

“We’ll go there and take our strongest mob with us, so fingers crossed that it will be on and that we get the right result.

“We beat them at home a few weeks ago (7-0). I always look at the opposition’s results and it’s not been great for them “With a side like Cheltenham, you can’t go there and think we are going to put seven past them. If you win 1-0, it’s still only three points.”

Elsewhere, Justin Miller’s Purton travel to Hook Norton, while Shrivenham host Abingdon United and New College travel to eighth-placed Clanfield.
