SWINDON Shock player-coach David Colclough says his team face an intriguing game as they host Cardiff City at New College.

Shock currently sit at the top of the National League Division Four but are only four points ahead of this weekend’s opponents, who have played two fewer games.

Swindon also go into the game on the back of solid win over local rivals Bristol Storm, with Colclough looking to strike while the iron is still hot.

“It’ll be an interesting game because they have a big guy who gives us trouble because he is so tall,” said Colclough.

“If we can get him out of the game, they don’t have a whole load of weapons after him. If we can take him out of the game and play our game, we should be fine.

“We are kind of on par with them so if we win the next game, that will put us into the play-off positions.

“We are top of the league at the moment and I just want to win as much as we can so we get promoted, that is the plan anyway.”

Last weekend saw the New College-based side experiment with a few younger players in the squad, such as junior player Ben Clarke and youngster Ollie Swann.

As well as Clarke, Colclough is also looking forward to seeing how Swann plays this weekend after acknowledging he has come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks.

“He (Swann) came on as one of the older players in the past and is a prime example of that. He played local league but wasn’t getting all of the right training,” added the Shock chief.

“He shot out of a cannon in these last couple of days and I am really excited to see what he will do at the weekend because his confidence has gone through the roof after the last game.”
