SWINDON Spitfires secured a 5-2 victory over Swindon Town Development, leapfrogging them in the Wiltshire County Ladies Premier League to claim top spot with a game to go.

Town took the lead on nine minutes but five minutes later, Spitfires were level as quick passing between Sarah Stacey and Katie Wadey allowed the latter to equalise.

A minute later, Spitfires were back in front as Claire Moreton’s through ball allowed Stacey to break through.

Town levelled in the 24th minute but four minutes later, Wadey’s pressure allowed her to score a second.

The second half was an end-to-end affair and Spitfires’ fourth came as Moreton’s forceful cross was met by Wadey on 68 minutes for her hat-trick.

Twelve minutes from time, Stacey scored her second to wrap it up.

In Division One, Swindon Spitfires Development secured a 3-2 win at Market Lavington and Eastern Ladies United, despite only fielding 10 players.

Goals from Jenna Hawkins, Becky Kench and Skye Peters proved enough to seal the Championship and top spot.
