DIVISION One pacesetters Old Town United were able to churn out another win as they further cemented their place at the top of the table.

Their convincing 6-0 victory over Haydon Wick means Chris Wood’s side are now five points clear of their nearest competitors Stratton Juniors.

Alex Hammond, Lee Haywood and Aaron Williams all chipped in with two goals each as they claimed their 10th victory, much to the delight of their manager Wood.

“It was a good performance. Realistically, it was a game we had to win to keep the pressure on the teams who are below us,” he said.

“As far as the lads are concerned, they played really well as a team. Steven Nesbitt played very well although he didn’t get on the score sheet.

“When you’re 3-0 up at half time, it is hard to keep that focus but the boys are motivating themselves.

“Realistically, we work on the same things every week. Sometimes we set ourselves targets and try different things.”

Elsewhere in the division, Lower Stratton pulled themselves level on points with fifth placed Lynham with a hard-fought 3-2 win.

Jamie Saunders put the hosts in front before Lynham equalised, but a second goal for Saunders and a Steve Norris effort meant they would retain all three points.

Ben Crame’s double was all Marlborough Reserves needed at the weekend as they were 2-0 winners over strugglers Chiseldon.

New Town All Stars were narrowly beaten in their game with Moredon as a Steven Nicholls goal was enough for a 1-0 away win.

Sport4Pinehurst were close to outscoring the league leaders but could only manage five as they picked up all three points in a 5-0 away win.

Wroughton Reserves were unable to overcome second-placed Stratton Juniors as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat thanks to Callum Cook’s effort.

In the Premier Division, Deers Leap moved up to third in the table following their 3-1 home win over Spectrum, while league leaders Tawny Owl stretched their unbeaten run to nine.

Substitutes Carl Merchant and Blaine Fitzgerald snatched a win for Deers Leap who were being held by Spectrum.

Jerry Ellis had handed them the lead in the first half, before goals from Merchant and Fitzgerald sealed the win for Peter Smith’s side.

League leaders Owl put in a five-star performance as they swept FC Dorcan to one side in a 5-2 win.

Rory Sproule weighed in with four in addition to Kenny Hawkins’ solitary effort, which was enough to cancel out Jimmy Horwood and Jake Kitchin’s efforts for the visitors.

Fifth-placed Swindon Spitfires had to settle for a point as they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Village Inn, who are currently in ninth place.
