PREMIER Division strugglers Pewsey Vale Reserves finally have something to cheer about after they claimed their first win of the season this weekend.

Mark Field’s hat-trick earned Vale their first points of the season, following a run of 20-straight defeats, in a 3-2 away success over Malmesbury Victoria Development.

Alistair Tuttle’s troops were 2-0 up as they went into the interval, but were pegged back when they hosts replied 30 seconds into the second half.

Field then completed his hat-trick midway through the half, before the hosts squeezed in a late consolation in the 89th minute.

“It’s been a long time coming. We have a lot of youth in our side and it was always going to be a long drawn out season,” manager Tuttle said.

“We seemed to be doing well of late, getting to half time where we are still in the game but very early in the second half we seem to capitulate and end up on the end of some stuffings."

Their opponents had also been struggling to get to grips with the league, but Tuttle admits he was a little surprised at the result after losing four of his players to the Pewsey Vale first team on Friday night.

“The future is bright, it is just a case of having to stick with these guys and give them a chance to mature,” he added.

“We always look at teams around us and hope that it’s going to be a win, but it wasn’t our strongest side."

Corsham Town also had a successful away trip as they were 2-1 winners over Bromham.

Second-placed Shrewton United failed to make the most of Wroughton’s postponement as they were beaten 3-2 by Wilts Calne Town.

Cricklade Town had to settle for a single point as they drew 3-3 with Trowbridge Town.

In the Corsham Print Senior Cup, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves progressed despite needing penalties to see off Devizes Town Reserves. The sides couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes as it ended 3-3, before finishing 4-4 after a further 30 minutes.
