A BRACE from Ollie Wilson was not enough to prevent Swindon falling to their seventh defeat on the bounce as they slipped to a 27-13 loss at home to Old Centralians on Saturday.

Wilson’s first-half try had put the hosts in the lead going into the break, courtesy of some last-ditch defending late on.

However, ill-discipline cost Swindon as the visitors capitalised when the hosts were reduced to 13 men and despite Wilson scoring his second try of the game, it wasn’t enough to prevent the 14-point loss.

Swindon head coach Sean Lynn said: “We had the upper hand going into the break. We went in 8-5 up and then we had a man in the bin and they were on our line for the last three or four minutes, putting a lot of pressure on us and we held them out.

“Then we had another guy go to the sin-bin and when we played with 13 men, they capitalised and that is probably where they scored their tries.

“We were chasing the game a little bit then and forcing it a little bit.

“Ollie Wilson had a fantastic game, scoring two tries and Connal Knott had probably one of the best games I have seen him play on Saturday, moving back to nine. It’s really nice to see that confidence in Connal.”

With fellow strugglers Oxford Harlequins picking up a rare win on the road at Reading Abbey, Lynn’s side slipped to second from bottom in the South West One East table.

However, there is no panic at this stage from the Greenbridge Road boss and he is confident that as long as the performances remain right, the results will follow following a tough run of fixtures, which has included games against three of the top five in the last month.

“Very surprisingly, the atmosphere in the camp is good because, what I am asking for is the performance in the game,” he added.

“I think the run of games we have had have been against the top four sides and what is nice is that we are competing.

“It’s just now about learning from our mistakes in these tight games and I am hoping we can close them off within the next six or seven weeks so we can get some wins under our belt.”
