BRADFORD Town manager Danny Greaves was pleased to see his side hold their nerve as they hung on to claim an important 2-1 win over struggling Bitton in the Toolstation League Premier Division.

It took just four minutes for Bradford to get off the mark as Matt Morris volleyed into the corner of the goal.

The visitors doubled their advantage with 20 minutes left when Karim Rendall, who impressed from the bench, crossed for Dan Cottle to score in the box.

Despite Bitton scoring from the penalty spot late on following a tangle of legs between Kyle Tooze and Bradford defender Ritchie Chandler, Greaves’ side were able to hold on, much to his relief.

“It was a good result after the last couple of weeks where we have lost big games and conceded last-minute goals,” he said.

“It was really important that we bounced back and the result was the most important thing and we came through.

“Performance-wise, we were really good for the first 20 or 30 minutes and created lots of chances, and it was the same old story for us.

“We didn’t take those chances and come the end, it looked like we were going to get punished at the other end.

“We managed to get our second goal to go 2-0 up and it was quite comfortable.

“They went up the other end and got a penalty and in the end, we held on quite well and that was pleasing to see.

“The last few games, we have let points slip or exited the Vase with last-minute goals.”

Bradford currently lie fifth in the table, a position that exceeds expectations according to Greaves.

However, with games against all of the current top four in their final seven matches of the season, the Trowbridge Road boss is keen to get as many points up on the board early.

“We take each game as it comes but we have got a very tough run-in,” he added.

“This middle batch of games; we need to be picking up as many points as possible and then after that, we’ll see where we are in the league and reassess our targets from there.

“We’re in a healthy position; fifth in the league, probably ahead of where we expected to be and it is all to play for until the end of the season.”
