SWINDON’S players are not afraid to stand up and be counted, says head coach Sean Lynn as they look to dig themselves out of trouble in South West One East.

Far from the upper echelons of the division they have become accustomed to in recent seasons, the Greenbridge Road side find themselves in a real dog fight to remain in the league.

Last Saturday’s defeat at home to Old Centralians, their seventh in as many games, saw them slip to second from bottom.

Only Reading, who sit eight points further back, separate Swindon and the foot of the table and while it is a position Lynn and the rest of his squad are not used to, he is confident that there is enough time in the season remaining to turn things around.

“It is only January,” he said.

“Obviously there are concerns, but we’re performing and we’re just waiting for those results to come and I am confident they will come.

“Like I said to the guys, as long as we are getting the performances and the boys are enjoying playing with each other, I am hoping the results will start to come.

“I think we just need to stick with what we are doing already.

“I think it is just about building team morale and making sure the players are all on board with the same values we have all got.”

Things don’t get any easier for Swindon this weekend as they travel to league leaders Old Patesians tomorrow.

However, far from feeling sorry for themselves, Lynn is keen to see his side stand up and try to cause an upset.

“If we’re looking at the game on Saturday, we’ve got Old Patesians away, who are top of the league,” he added.

“It will be tough to go there but I think we will try and go there and see if we can upset the party and see if we can get something from it.

“The boys are looking good. A few boys have come back from injury and unavailability, but what is nice is that players are starting to put their hands up and places are being fought for.

“Guido Suez came back on Saturday but take nothing away from Reece Kinnett, who has been a second team player and has really come to the fore and we’re happy with his performances.

“Guido now has got to take that number three jersey off him.

“What I’ve asked is that the front five keep battling on and let’s see what our backs can do and they are doing that.”
