KALIF Barnes crossed for a hat-trick of tries as Corsham continued their inexorable march towards the Dorset & Wilts One North title with a 39-0 triumph over Frome 2nd at Lacock Road.

Struggling Frome were an improved outfit from the 64-0 thrashing they had received at home earlier in the season, but were still unable to get the scoreboard ticking as Corsham racked up a 12th try bonus point of the campaign.

George Beavis added a brace of tries and Tim Minty and Harry Beazer also crossed for the home side in a seven-try performance.

Corsham head coach Tim Draper said: "Frome were much improved from our game earlier in the season and were strong at the set piece and in their tight defence.

"It was a scrappy game and we never really got into our stride.

"However, at times we played some great attacking rugby, putting pace and width into our game which Frome were unable to defend.''

Pewsey Vale remained in third place as they shut out hosts Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd 29-0.

Vale dominated open play and had Bassett on the back foot for most of a bruising encounter Fifteen minutes in a Pewsey scrum five metres out drove forward, stopped in its tracks and quick ball to fly-half James Haynes sent him over for the try.

From the restart lock Mike Paddick collected the ball and dashed forward. Flanker Olly Spence took on the move and prop Phil Hobbs set up number eight Phil Vallis who hit the whitewash, Haynes adding the extras.

Ten minutes later Spence took a quick tap penalty five metres out and bulldozed over to touch down, Haynes adding the two points.

In the second half, playing against the slope and in to the strong wind, Pewsey dominated territory, scoring two tries.

At the start of the last quarter a Bassett clearance kick was caught on halfway and the move was finished off out wide by wing Will Bowerman.

In the last play of the game a kick ahead was chased down by wing Toni Bloomfield.

Pewsey coach Mick Haynes said: "We denied the home team territory by solid defensive pressure and driving go-forward attack.

"The team produced the goods and more in difficult conditions and it was a very good performance all round.''

Grit and determination were the keys to Minety's 15-12 win at Chippenham 2nd.

In freezing conditions, first-half tries from flanker Josh Bull and scrum-half Jack Ward set the platform for the visitors' triumph.

Bull crossed five minutes in but a converted try took Chippenham ahead before Ward went over near the posts and McAllister's conversions turned the tables again.

McAllister added a penalty after the break and despite Chippenham's second try, Minety were able to hold on.

Captain Andrew Hibbard said: “Perhaps the hammering that we took at home a few weeks ago at the hands of Bradford on Avon did us good.

"Since then we’ve put in two brilliant performances away from home.”

Melksham maintained their pursuit of a top-three finish as they comfortably saw off Swindon 2nd 27-0.

Under sustained pressure, Swindon gave away a penalty slotted by Adam Davies.

In the second quarter Melksham piled on the pressure, Ben Brown out on the wing showing his strength and pace to score a brace of tries in as many minutes.

The second half followed the same pattern, with the deadlock broken by Cameron Bull taking the ball at pace to step his way over the line.

Simon Foster added the extras and the home team pressure continued with Phil Stone charging across the line, Foster adding the conversion.

Warminster stayed clear in second spot as they saw off Supermarine 24-12 at Folly Lane.

After a patient start, the home side sprung into life as back Dean Priestman spotted a gap and went over out wide.

Priestman repeated the trick for the second try, going between defenders and then outpacing the cover defence.

Marine hit back with a converted score of their own but right wing Tom Evans broke the second-half stalemate on 65 minutes, Sprangle converting, before fly-half Kieran Chester added another converted score, Marine responding with a second try late on.
