SWINDON College Old Boys head coach Martin Lloyd has warned his side that they need to remain focussed as they come up against an unpredictable Didcot outfit this weekend.

The Old Boys retained their faultless record by collecting their 13th win of the season against Crowthorne last time out.

With the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier leaders back on home turf, Lloyd sees no reason why his side can't make it 14 straight wins at the weekend.

“Didcot are a funny side. Looking at their results from one week to the next, they aren’t the strongest side,” said Lloyd.

“They’re always combative in their forwards, so we are looking forward to playing them because they’re enthusiastic.

“We are at home so we have home advantage. We tend to look at that as a real fortress, so we will be disappointed to lose at home.

“We aren’t taking anything for granted, so we just have to wait and see how it goes.”

Lloyd credited self-belief as the reason his side are able to come through some of the tougher fixtures in the campaign.

“When you struggle against a side, like we did last Saturday, we still had the belief we were going to win the game, which is a great thing to have if you don’t have the arrogance,” added Lloyd.

“Even though we are coming up against an inconsistent side, if we stick to our phases and do the right thing, the results will follow.

“One of the things we are trying to emphasise is we want our players to play with a smile on their face and enjoy the game.

Lloyd may face a selection headache as Liam Davies, Bobby Tilling and Tucker Blinkhorn are all unavailable, with reinforcements likely to be plucked from the club’s second team.

“We are a bit worried about that. We have some serious issues but one of the things which is really comforting is the strength in the second team,” added Lloyd.

“We have guys who we can bring up from the second team who have been doing so well but we don’t want to take too many from them to bolster the first team if we can avoid it.”
