CORSHAM head coach Tim Draper praised the performance of Chippenham 2nd as his side were denied a bonus-point win while maintaining their 100 per cent winning record at the top of Dorset & Wilts One North.

Two first-half tries from Lewis Jones and Liam Snape, both converted by Kalif Barnes, proved enough for the visiting leaders, who extended their lead courtesy of Warminster's defeat to Swindon 2nd despite being shut out in the second half.

Draper said: "We never really got out of third gear in the game but credit must go to Chippenham, who defended well and put us under a lot of pressure at the breakdown to slow our ball down.

"A number of try scoring opportunities were missed in the second half which was disappointing and is something we need to address for our next game.

"It's a good result on reflection though, especially with Warminster losing at the weekend.''

Minety romped to their biggest victory of the campaign as they crushed Devizes 2nd 79-0 at Minety Fields to maintain their interest in a top four finish.

After clever interchanges involving forwards and backs, it was centre Jack Ward who opened the scoring in the ninth minute, crashing over the line for the first try, converted by scrum-half Garin Garland.

Captain Andrew Hibbard collected the ball in midfield and left a wake of Devizes defenders before off-loading to flanker Josh Bull who drew the covering defence and executed a perfectly-timed pass to allow full-back Duncan Simpson to score the second in the 26th minute and the third try came when Garland broke a tackle and was halted on the line.

Bull, in close support, touched down and the successful conversion saw Minety 19-0 up.

The bonus point was secured in the 37th minute as Del Murray, playing his first game at centre this season, drove through the defence before passing to flanker Tom Windle, who scored beneath the posts. Garland’s conversion took the half-time score to 26-0.

With the benefit of the slope in the second half, Minety pushed forward and Garland scored the first of a second-half hat-trick of tries .

When winger Dave Cooke was halted inches from the line the ball was successfully rucked back and Ward scored his second before the impressive Murray sliced through the tiring defence, converted by Garland.

The Minety pack combined for a push over try from 15 metres out in the 62nd minute, Hibbard touching down and Garland again converting.

Garland’s second try came after a forward move before winger John Blair touched down.

Two tries in the last minute, the first from Garland and the second from Hibbard concluded the rout.

Melksham leapfrogged Pewsey Vale into fourth place in the table with a 22-19 success at Oakfields.

The visitors hit their stride straightaway scoring two tries through flanker Chris Spence, converted by fly-half James Haynes, and wing Tony Bloomfield through an interception.

But the Melksham rally started with good hands through the backs for Callum Gillard to cross out wide, Simon Foster converting and then adding a penalty.

Pewsey regathered to strike again just after the restart, lock Karl Crosbie going over from a driven maul and Haynes converting but Melksham continued to battle back, scoring from relentless forward pressure through Chris Partt, off the bench.

Foster converted and the match was eventually decided by Melksham prop Paul Hayden, who received the ball at pace to put the home team ahead for the first time.
