AFTER the disappointment of seeing their Senior Vase run brought to an end last weekend, Swindon College Old Boys can console themselves by wrapping up the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier title tomorrow.

The Pipers Way side go to Maidenhead to tackle bottom club, Phoenix, knowing that a bonus point success would crown them champions with three games to spare.

While College, who bowed out of the Senior Vase in Cornwall last Saturday following a 22-5 defeat to Saltash in the South West final, have been sweeping aside all and sundry, director of rugby Martin Lloyd says his team cannot take anything for granted.

“If you start to show arrogance and complacency then that is when you get hurt,” warned Lloyd. “Thankfully, we haven’t got that in our squad at all.

“We know that Phoenix are in proper dogfight with Risborough in bid to stay up and they are not going to be a pushover. We have to go there be professional and get the job done.”

Lloyd says that they will not need to try pick the players up after the defeat in Cornwall.

“We have got a really motivated bunch of guys,” the College chief said. “We have got a lot of leaders in the team and no-one in possession of a first shirt wants to lose it. Numbers at training have been fantastic on both Tuesdays and Thursday because everyone wants to play.

“We know that there is a big step up to the next level so all we can do right now is keep working as hard as we have been doing.”

Should College lift the title tomorrow they will be hoping to be placed in Southern Counties North after being relegated from that division last term, having won promotion via the play-offs two seasons ago.

“I would say that we are much more organised now than we were two years ago,” Lloyd said.

“At the moment I would expect us to go in the North. We were in that league last season and managed to pick up a few wins. But we have got four games left of this season to worry about first.

“Saturday is not going to be as easy as everyone will think and we have also got to play Tadley and Slough.

“We have got to make sure that we have got the right attitude for all our remaining games.”
