MARK Collier was delighted to see his title-winning Chippenham Town side achieve the 100-point mark in the Southern League Premier Division with a 1-0 win away to Frome Town.

The Bluebirds saw their 23-game unbeaten run broken on Saturday in a 2-1 defeat to St Neots Town at Hardenhuish Park.

However, they made no mistake on derby day against Frome as Jake Andrew’s penalty, after Dave Pratt had been felled in the box, was enough to claim all three points in Somerset.

A few sore heads from the weekend’s title celebrations saw Collier make five changes to the side that lost on Saturday and the Bluebirds boss was pleased to see those who have been on the fringes step up to the plate.

“We made five changes and fair play to the lads who came in, they performed very well,” he said.

“Frome is quite a difficult place to go and we were comfortable throughout and there were some big performances.

“I thought John Beedan was outstanding as a centre-back and Chris Allen and Michael Pook played very well in midfield as well. It just shows that we have got a bit of strength in depth.

“Jake Andrews absolutely lashed the penalty into the top corner - he has a great technique with his penalties.

“A clean sheet at Frome is a decent effort. We have had some tired legs, there is no denying that, but the effort and the application of the players was outstanding.

“We wanted to get to 100 points and we have done it with a game left.

“It bodes well with a bigger squad for next season. These lads are vital for the cause and it shows great team spirit and great attitude from the lads who haven’t been playing.

“They have certainly come in and put their names in the frame for next week.”

The result means the Bluebirds can beat the league’s highest-ever points tally of 102 should they beat St Ives Town in their final game on Saturday.
