CORSHAM Town were able to drag themselves five points clear of the bottom two in the Toolstation First Division following a rare victory over Easter.

Nigel Tripp’s side had only won eight times prior to Good Friday but thanks to goals from Aaron Masson and Alex Zarrelli, they were able to make that nine with a 2-0 success over Devizes Town.

However, they were unable to make the most of that win as they were edged out on Easter Monday, falling to 1-0 at home to Wincanton Town.

“It wasn’t too bad a weekend. I thought we worked hard in both games,” said Corsham boss Tripp.

“We got the rub of the green against Devizes but unfortunately, we didn’t against Wincanton.

“We are pleased because we probably would have settled for two draws.

“It was just a dogged game (against Devizes). We stopped them doing what they wanted to do, it wasn’t anything we didn’t deserve. “To be honest, it is still a bit of a struggle because of the circumstances and everything. Everyone who has come in has worked hard.

“At this level and this league, work-rate is just as important as ability. If you get 11 players working hard for you, you have as good a chance as anybody.

“It’s good to see that the players who have come in are willing to roll their sleeves up for every game, it’s nice to work with players like that.”

Westbury United had a more impressive haul with a win and a draw from their two Easter fixtures.

The first was a hard-fought point against a Warminster Town. Jamie Jordan was on hand to cancel out Francois Allen’s goal as the game finished 1-1 on Good Friday.

On Easter Monday, United ensured all three points remained at Meadow Lane with a 3-1 win over Almondsbury UWE.

George Bendle gave the hosts a slender 1-0 advantage at the interval.

Stuart Alexander’s goal would prove to be nothing more than a consolation for the visitors as George Pinder’s late double secured a 3-1 victory.

Mark Breffit’s Warminster failed to go one better than their draw on Good Friday as they lost 2-1 at home to Bishops Lydeard.
