ROYAL Wootton Bassett can head to champions Maidenhead tomorrow knowing that there is no pressure on them.

The Ballards Ash side secured their South West One East status before the Easter break following a 24-5 success over Grove.

But as the season draws to a close tomorrow, Bassett head coach Alan Low will look at a campaign, which, on the whole, has been a largely satisfying one.

“We go into this game with no pressure on us, and it would nice to go out there and enjoy it,” Low said.

“It has been a good season, it has been frustrating for us (at times), (but) it has been a good one when we reflect on the whole year.”

While Low is looking for his players to go out and enjoy the final match of the campaign, he is still keen for his players not to completely switch off on Maidenhead’s 3G pitch.

“We are in a position now, as coaching team, where we can say to the guys – ‘go and enjoy yourselves, we still want to get that performance right, but the pressure is off you’ “We have a talked about the games we have lost this season – where we have lost points in last couple of minutes of games.

“Maidenhead at home (on the opening day of the season where the visitors won 20-19) was one where they kicked the winning kick with the last play of the game to win by one point.

“We can still compete and we have played very well against the top four sides and that is something that we want to prove and establish ourselves.”

Low has also been pleased with his side’s defensive effort this season despite the 47-13 defeat to Chippenham at the start of the month.

Bassett have only conceded 512 points from their 25 games to date which gives them the fourth best defence in the league despite them sitting in seventh.

“We our placed fourth for our points against, but a little bit lower, seventh, for our points scored at the moment.

“We have had a few blips along the way – the Chippneham result – but once we had that mental bit sorted, we created a really good foundation for next year.”
