MANAGER Richard Austen believes AFC Cricklade’s Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield victory tops their back-to-back league title triumphs.

Last season, Cricklade were crowned champions of Division Five in the Swindon Sunday League and despite being promoted two tiers instead of one, the success story did not stop there as they clinched the Division Three crown just over a week ago.

The trophy rush continued at the weekend as a 5-2 victory over new Division Five title winners Highworth Town Sunday at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in Royal Wootton Bassett saw Austen’s side add a cup to their growing haul of silverware.

“To do the double is very, very nice. We won the league last year too but everyone likes cup finals, don’t they?” said Austen.

“They are one-off games that can go either way and you know everyone is going to be giving absolutely everything.

“There were a fair few people watching and it’s nice to win in front of a decent crowd.

“We’ve had a few good years. When we won the league last year, we got moved up two divisions and I think they might do that again this year seeing as we could finish unbeaten.

“It shows what you can do when you have got a group of players that are committed.

“With all the problems we have had at Cricklade for Saturday and Sunday football, it’s nice to see both teams up and running and people talking about us for the right reasons.”

Cricklade trailed 1-0 at the interval on Sunday but John Davoile restored parity soon after the restart before Shane Hibbert fired Austen’s side ahead.

Highworth were able to draw level once more but two more goals from Hibbert saw him bring up his hat-trick before Lewis Petrie completed the rout.

Manager Austen added: “I think 5-2 was a bit harsh on them, maybe 4-2 would have been fairer.

“At half-time we were 1-0 down against the run of play as we had probably shaded it. It was a close game, which I expected as they are a good team.

“We managed to go 2-1 up but then a defensive mistake allowed them to get back to 2-2. We lifted ourselves again and score a few more goals and I think the fourth one killed them off.”

In league games, Greyhound moved to within one win of the Division One title after sweeping to a 4-1 success at Deers Leap.

A thumping 6-0 win for DPR at home to Cleeve Tech secured them the Division Two title, climbing above Rodbourne Real to finish one point clear at the summit. Elsewhere, Chilli Shak proved too hot for Woodlands Edge to handle in a 5-2 victory.

There were no matches in Division Three but the Division Four title has been sealed by Coleshill Youth after they thrashed PSV Swindon 13-1 away from home. Nationwide and Rudis shared a 2-2 draw.

The sole game in Division Five saw Paxton House United edge out hosts Sevenfield United 1-0.
