LECHLADE and Potterne will renew their rivalry tomorrow two season on from their battles in Premier Two.

Back in 2015, it was Potterne, who will be in the away dressing room tomorrow, who prevailed by taking the crown and a place in Premier One.

Twelve months later, Freddie Martin’s side went on to be anointed Premier Two Glos/Wilts champions and joined their old adversaries in the top flight of the West of England Premier League.

The two matches in 2015 saw Neil Clark’s Potterne claim an eight-wicket success at Purton’s Manor Ground before the champions-elect took the honours at the Grove despite a century from Lechlade’s Brad Dial.

While Potterne have enjoyed a fine start to the 2017 campaign, they currently top the Premier One table after winning their opening two matches, Lechlade have endured mixed fortunes.

Martin’s men enjoyed a seven-wicket win over fellow new boys Bedminster on the opening day of the season.

However, they were given a harsh reminder of the old saying ‘catches win matches’ when losing to Corsham last Saturday.

Lechlade, who lost by 52 runs at Station Road, put down Corsham opener Remano Esau on 14 and the South African went on to hit his maiden century for his club.

“It is going to be another tough game for us,” said Martin.

“Potterne have started well, but I’m sure that we have the team to bounce back.

“We have a squad that is capable of competing with anyone in this league, we just have to make sure that we are focused.”
