ALUN Rossiter says Swindon Robins’ hot streak of form should leave his team with no shortage of confidence that another victory at Poole Pirates is possible this evening.

Swindon travel to Wimborne Road looking for a fourth SGB Premiership win in the space of a week and fifth in a row in all, a run of form that has lifted them into the play-off places.

Rossiter’s side claimed home and away success against league leaders Belle Vue Aces on consecutive nights last Thursday and Friday and followed that up with a dramatic final-heat triumph at bottom side Leicester Lions on Monday evening.

All those results – as well as Swindon’s previous success at home to Wolverhampton Wolves on June 29 – were secured without injured skipper Jason Doyle.

The world championship leader has been forced to sit out recent meetings as he continues to struggle with a foot injury but is set for a welcome return to Swindon colours this evening.

Rossiter hopes the rest of his troops get an extra kick from seeing the team captain and number one back in the pits in Dorset and ready to battle alongside them again – although not that there should be any lack of belief in the Robins camp at present.

“We had a great win down at Poole earlier in the season and although I’m led to believe they have sorted the track out, which means it’s going to be a bit slick, we have got to believe we can win there again after these last few results we’ve had,” said Rossiter.

“Poole are a good side and they had an excellent result up at Wolverhampton on Monday but we’re right in top form at the moment. It should be a great meeting.

“Jason should be back unless he tells me differently.

“The guys’ confidence is sky high at the moment and having Jason come back in, you’d like to think it would raise it even more. I would be disappointed if it didn’t.

“We need to carry on this form that we’ve had without the skipper and hopefully he will come back in and lift everybody up and we can go out and get a good result again.”

Adam Ellis suffered a heavy fall in the victory at Leicester on Monday, with the resulting shoulder injury curtailing his meeting after just three rides, but Rossiter does not expect that to rule him out of the contest against the side he left to join the Robins over the winter.

Rossiter said: “His shoulder popped out but it went back in fine so he should be fine to come straight back in on Wednesday.”
