SWINDON Robins skipper Jason Doyle admitted it was a pleasure to return to a buoyant team at Wimborne Road yesterday.

Since breaking three bones in his right foot, the Robins won five meetings, including back-to-back victories over league leaders Belle Vue Aces, without their Grand Prix star.

Despite still being on crutches in the pits, Doyle was back with Swindon last night as Alun Rossiter’s side pulled off arguably their best win of the six-meeting streak, with a 20-point victory over Poole Pirates.

And the Robins captain said that he had noticed a change in dynamic of the team on his return, with the addition of Tobiasz Musielak seemingly being the missing piece of the jigsaw according to the Aussie.

“It’s good to be back,” Doyle told the Advertiser, with Swindon now sitting within striking distance of leaders Belle Vue, four points adrift heading into tonight’s meeting with Rye House Rockets at the Abbey Stadium (7.30pm).

“To come back into a team that has done all the hard work in the last five matches - hats off to the boys.

“We were pretty much dead and buried in the league and now we have made it into the play-offs at the moment.

“Swindon is my team and to see the boys doing the job was a great thing.

“It was a good guest with Troy (Batchelor) coming in and scoring so many points.

“It’s a shame he got hurt at Leicester (on Monday) but he has done a really good job for Swindon over the last week.

“The boys have all come together and scored good points, which is the key.

“Rosco (Alun Rossiter) said that we had made 20 points in the last five matches and it does bring us right back up there.

“We have been sent an angel with Tobiasz coming into the team and, with Adam (Ellis) at reserve scoring massive points, it’s made it a lot easier.

“We’re all gelled together and hopefully we can move forward now.”

Doyle is now hoping to put on a show for the home crowd, with the last three of Swindon’s wins all coming on the road, when they take to the Abbey track this evening.

“We have to always win our home matches and that is where we have struggled,” he added.

“We’ve always done quite well away from home and lost the ones at home and that’s where the fans come and watch us ride.

“Hopefully, after the results we have had in the last couple of weeks, they come in their droves and we can have a good night and do it for the Swindon supporters, who have stuck by us when it was tough.”
