GREYHOUND boss Dave Hawkins was delighted to see his troops get off the mark at the first attempt with a 4-2 over FC Walcot in Division One.

The visitors came out on top in an eventful game, which saw three penalties and a red card.

Hawkins saw his side presented with the perfect opportunity to get into an early lead, as they were awarded a first-half spot-kick, but Greyhound failed to convert from 12-yards.

However, it wasn’t a mistake they would make twice as a change in penalty taker was all they needed as Shane Hibbert dispatched when Greyhound were awared another spot-kick.

Lewis Waldon, Rory Sproule and David Flatley were also on target for the visitors.

“FC Walcot are always tough. The result goes either way each time we play them,” said Hawkins.

“We worked very hard but unfortunately, they had a man sent off. He will feel that he let them down but we played better when they had 11 players on the pitch.

“Maybe after red card we thought it was a little bit too easy and we took our foot off of the pedal but we deserved to win.

“There were plenty of chances at both ends and both goalkeepers played really well. They’ll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season as they always are.

“It’s only our first league game so it is pleasing to get three points and a win over one of our closest rivals.”

Coleshill Youth also picked up their first win of the season, but theirs came at the second time of asking against a deflated AFC Gas side.

Gas, who are yet to record a win, were beaten 5-1 away from home.

Cleeve Tech and AFC Freshbrook played out a 4-4 draw, however that still proved to be enough for the former to climb to the top of the Division One standings.

Like Greyhound, Rodbourne Real registered their first three points of the campaign with a steady 2-1 away win against Jovial Monk.

In Division Two, Eldene were 7-2 winners away at Athletico Marlborough, Highworth Town Sunday put six past Wanborough in a 6-4 win and Swindon Athletic edged out Croft Junior 3-2 to pick up a road win.

Elsewhere, Nationwide recorded three points with a 4-1 victory at home to Stratton Saints, while Purton Red House jumped to the top of the pile with a second consecutive win over Rudis, that game finished 2-1 to the home side.

In Division Three, AFC Mannington also won 7-2, with The Abbey Mead on the receiving end.

Swindon Rovers and Chiseldon Sunday were both 5-2 winners, beating Charles Geddes and Smart Movers respectively.

PSV Swindon slipped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Gorsehill Borough, Openwork United were 5-3 winners over Paxton House United, while Cricklade Park Rangers had the best result in a 7-0 triumph away to Sevenfield United.
