DEVIZES Town will go into their festive programme full of confidence after ending their winless Toolstation League First Division One run in style last weekend.

Darran Walters’ men ran out 7-3 winners at Warminster Town to pick up three points for the first time since October 7 and the manager felt the scoreline – while unusual – provided a fair reflection of the game.

Robert Mitchell grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors, while Jack Hopper netted twice and Matthew Russell and Jamie Walters added the others.

“We dominated the game but they caught us a couple of times on the break,” said the Devizes boss.

“It was 3-3 with 20-25 minutes to go but then we scored the fourth and fifth goals to kill the game off. If it had been any closer than it was at the end then it wouldn’t have been right. We missed some good opportunities after half-time and their keeper had a good game.

“Picking up the three points was the main thing though because we hadn’t done so for seven matches previously.”

Devizes have the chance to push towards the top five over Christmas as they host Chippenham Park on Saturday before making the short trip to to Corsham Town on Boxing Day (12.30pm). The returns of Josh Brigham and Dan Sloan from injury have strengthened Walters’ hand, but he will be without leading scorer Tom Slater until the new year.

Will Thomson scored for Chippenham Park as they drew 1-1 at home to Malmesbury Victoria on Saturday. Park’s Matthew Mead was sent off and Antony Brown replied for the visitors.

Park host Calne Town on Boxing Day (1.30pm), while Malmesbury – who entertain high-flying Westbury United on Saturday – head to Bristol Telephones (3pm).

Calne will look to bounce back from their 2-0 reverse at Oldland Abbotonians when they host Warminster on Saturday.

Corsham, meanwhile, welcome Oldland to Southbank having suffered a 5-0 drubbing at Westbury last weekend. Jamie Jordan hit three and Dan Kovacs two for the hosts.
