Thatchers take team honours at Newbridge

THE second round of the Commercial House Winter League was fished on the Avon at Newbridge where competitors enjoyed good sport.

Preston Innovation Thatchers took team honours in A division with 30 points and Veals topped B division with 28.

Individual honours on the day went to Mark Leader, of Veals, with a roach catch boosted by a bonus pike of 9lb 8oz for a winning weight of 13lb 9oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots. Paul Barnfield, of Karaoke Nites, took second spot with a roach and perch catch weighing 11lb 13oz, taken alternating with pole-fished red maggots and worm. Nick Bartlett, of D & W Builders, clinched third prize with a mixed catch weighing 10lb 8oz.

Other placings: 4 Steve Hutchinson, Veals, 10lb 4oz; 5 Paul Benson, Superseal, 9lb 13oz 8dm; 6 Chris Parr, Karaoke Nites, 9lb 12oz.

Teams: A Division: 1 Preston Innovation Thatchers A 30; 2 Bathampton Avon Aquatics 24; 3 Karaoke Nites 23. B Division: 1 Veals 28; 2.D & W Builders 26; 3. Superseal 20.

Duckett wins with all-carp catch

THE Landsend Fishery open match again produced fairly even catches.

Top honours on the day went to fishery owner Mike Duckett, with an all-carp catch weighing 69lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn fished over pellets.

Gary Wall, of Landsend, took second prize with a carp catch weighing 53lb, taken on pole-fished pellets. Nigel Duckett, of Landsend, was third with a mixed catch weighing 52lb 15oz, with Rod Wooten, of Dynamite Frys MG, fourth with another mixed catch weighing 38lb 10oz.

The silver fish prize went to Barry Fitchew, of Fox Match, with a mixed catch of tench, skimmers, chub and roach weighing 32lb 10oz, taken alternating with pole-fished casters and worm.
