LAWN ended their recent poor run in Regional League One with a 54-37 victory against Cornish side St Austell.
Despite a solid start from the visiting team, the first period ended 12-10 in Lawn’s favour.
Team manager Laura Holt kept the side the same going into the second quarter and the defensive trio of Claire Baverstock, Jo Worrall and Alex Leonard kept a tight hold on the St Austell attack.
The shooting circle of Amy Richardson and Kerrie Easey calmly converted all interceptions to extend their lead to seven goals going into half-time.
After half-time, Sam Dell and captain Nikki Carvey controlled centre court and the lead had gone up to 12 by the end of the third period.
Holt brought on Rachel Green to goal attack who shot well from all over the circle.
With Baverstock making some well-timed interceptions, Lawn pulled clear to clinch a comfortable win.
Skipper Carvey said: “We needed to really settle quickly into this game which we did.
“St Austell are a young, talented team who will be one to look out for in the future. It was a great team performance and we had a fantastic team spirit.’’ Lawn travel to Team Bath next.
n PINEHURST emerged as victors from their thrilling Regional League Two derby with Moredon.
Moredon led 12-9 at the first break, but Pinehurst chipped away as the game wore on.
Both teams had six foot-plus shooters who were put to good use and the feeding into them from the centre court players was near perfect.
Pinehurst clinched the second quarter 17-7 for a seven-point half-time advantage.
Moredon pulled to within five goals thanks to the centre court duo of Heather Moore and Helen Thompson.
But Pinehurst brought on the experience of Julie Turner to steady the game for the last quarter and held on.
n LAWN made it a Regional League double for their club with a 35-34 League Two triumph over Trident in Taunton.
Without a win, Lawn also had several players missing with under 19 commitments and captain Tanya McMinn absent.
But a young side, with several new additions including outstanding wing defence Hayley Neate performed superbly to eke out a narrow victory. Team: GS Georgina Tait GA Jennie Bore WA Becky Gaiger C Beth Thompson WD Hayley Neate GD Vicky Josey GK Amy Goodwin. Third quarter sub: GS Vicky Badminton; Not used: Fran Botting unused.
