Wiltshire League
Bottom side FC Chippenham Youth caused an upset when they beat Bromham 2-1 on their own ground.
Delighted manager Steve Manifold said: “It was no fluke. We deserved to win. The lads worked hard, put themselves about and got their reward.”
After a goalless first half the visitors took a deserved lead with a good strike from Mark Nolan. The home side’s super sub Scott Askew then came off the bench to equalise.
But a cracking free kick from Jack Forrester beat the home keeper to give the bottom club a deserved three points.
Bromham boss Ben Howe said “We were dreadful. They wanted to win it more than we did. Too many of our players had an off day but fair play to Chippenham, they deserved their win.”
At the other end of the table leaders Calne Town continue to blaze the trail with a 2-0 away victory over Pewsey Vale.
It looked to be one of those days for the leaders as they did everything but score in the first 45 minutes. But after the break John O’Meara broke the deadlock converting a good cross from Scott Evans and Steve Healey made sure of victory heading in a free kick from Chris Pitman.
Without a game for a couple of weeks Melksham kept in touch with the leaders with a 2-0 victory at Shrewton.
Manager Tim Spear thought his side looked a bit rusty and below par adding: “We will play a lot better and lose so I’m pleased with the three points. Unfortunately we will be losing Simon Gillett, who scored both goals, due to suspension.
A spirited second half fight back by Marlborough Town just failed to peg back second in the table Purton who ran out winners 4-2.
Goals from Gavin Allen, Colin Yates and defender Martin Pope gave the visitors a three goal lead at the break but it was a different story in the second half as the home side pushed forward and pulled a couple of goals back from Steve Dean and Carl Mabberley.
But a late strike by Craig Hogg ensured victory for the second in the table outfit.
Purton boss Stef Kucynski said: “They battered us in the second half and we struggled to hold on to the lead. Not many sides will score four at Marlborough so in the end I was delighted with the points.”
Last season’s champions Wroughton had a welcome change of luck, beating visitors Bradford Town 4-0.
It was a pleasing result for boss Kevin Cook who said: “We signed a couple of new players, Ollie Sly from Westside and Frankie Hunt from Forest Green Academy, and they both did well.
“We played really well from the start. It was a good day at the office.”
Lee Curtis, two, Andy Bryan and Chris Rivers were on target for the home side.
Corsham Town and Warminster Town shared the points in a 1-1 draw, with Pete Tye on target for the home side and Ashley Caws for the visitors.
Warminster boss Nigel Mc Gulkian said it was a fair result. He felt both sides had chances to win the game, adding: “It was well refereed and there were no controversial incidents, just two sides evenly matched.”
The matches between Devizes Town and Westside and Trowbridge Town and Westbury United were postponed.
In the top of the table clash in Division One, SKS Blyskawica beat Minety 2-1 and Intel accounted for Castle Combe by the same score.
