ANGLING: Devizes in pole position

WITH just one match remaining in the Angling Times Upper Thames Division, Devizes are in prime position to take the title.

On Sunday Devizes earned their second consecutive win to go into the final round nine points clear of nearest rivals, Daiwa Gordon League.

Devizes’ Kevin Abigail did the business on the day managing to bank two carp for nearly 20lb plus some silver fish for a match-winning weight of 23lb 4oz taken from Church Reach, Bedwyn.

Abigail now leads the league by 30 points from Joe Thompson of Turners Tackle & Bait, who is just one point behind.

In general the weights were poor on the previous week’s match with over half the field recording a weight of less than two pounds.

Turners Tackle & Bait proprietor Pete Turner took the runners-up spot with 13lb 1oz taken from J section.

Steve Ford of Daiwa Gordon League was third with 12lb 15oz.
