Harry wins it for Bromham

BROMHAM just about had the edge over visitors Marlborough Town in their Wiltshire League Premier Division game, running out winner 2-1 in a hard fought game.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half when the visitors’ goalkeeper misjudged the flight of the ball and from the ensuing scramble Jack Heard back-heeled the ball over the line.

Soon after the start of the second half the Town fought back to equalise, but not to be out done Bromham’s man-of-the-match Harry Hamblin scored the winner with a calm finish to give his side the points.

Bromham boss Ben Howe said: “It was an important three points for us. It keeps us in the top half of the table and the lads did well to beat a strong Marlborough outfit,”

New College are the new leaders of the division following their 5-0 away victory over Pewsey Vale.

Manager Mark Teasdale said:”The lads have made it to the top now we have to try and stay there. All teams seem to play better against the top of the table side,so hopefully the lads can deal with the pressure.”

The Swindon side found it hard to break down a stubborn home defence but were helped midway through the half when a mix up in the Pewsey defence allowed Jack Moody to nip in and put the College ahead.

The home side continued to thwart the visitors’ attempts to add to their score until minutes before the break when Sam English headed in from a corner.

English was again on hand to score a third soon after the break when the home defence failed to clear a corner and midway through the half Darryl Charman struck twice to bring the tally to five.

English spurned a chance to have chalked up a hat-trick when he had his penalty saved by the home keeper in the closing stages.

Wroughton gained a 3-0 home victory over visitors Warminster Town Reserves, taking the lead with a strike from Barry Dickens in a scrappy first 45 minutes. On the hour Dickens was brought down in the box and Andy Brien added a second from the penalty spot.

The best move of the match resulted in Dickens making sure of victory by adding a third to move his side up to fifth spot in the table.

Manager Kevin Cook said he was happy with the three points but added: “I thought we were very poor in the first half and we will need to play for all 90 minutes against Calne and Purton in our forthcoming matches.”

Corsham Town Reserves and Shrewton United Reserves fought out a seven-goal thriller in the third round of the Corsham Print Senior Cup, with victory going to the home side 4-3.

The visitors found themselves 2-1 down at the break, Dave Jones pulling a goal back for United just before the break.

In an exciting second half the home side added two more to their tally with Immanuel Amorfa and defender Matt Scott replying for the visitors.

Shrewton boss Dougie Hill said: “The damage was done in the first half.

“We played much better after the break and we could well have taken the tie into extra-time.

They looked a lot sharper than us in the first half and looked a good young side.”

The matches between Calne Town Reserves and Devizes Town Reserves, FC Chippenham Youth and Westside, Westbury United Reserves and Melksham Town Reseves and Trowbridge Town Reserves and Bradford Town Reserves were all postponed due to unfit pitches.

In Division One KCFC joined leaders Blyskawica at the top of the table following their 4-1 win over Wroughton Reserves.
