Superbikes: Trowbridge rider Victor Cox insists he can kick-start his ViSK British Superbike season at Knockhill - if some new bike parts arrive in time.
Former St John of Gaunt School pupil Cox – who spent the last three seasons racing in the British Superstock class - has suffered a disastrous start to the season and has yet to record a championship point.
Events took a familiar turn at round five at Snetterton with the STP Motorsport MV Agusta rider plagued by machine problems in practice before struggling to 20th and 22nd on race day.
But with the promise of a new-look bike on the horizon Cox is adamant his trip north of the border can bring about a change of luck.
“I like Knockhill – it’s a good little track and it is not like Snetterton where you need a lot of power,” said Cox.
“It’s difficult for us at the minute because we are not having any chance to go out on the bike between meetings so when we get to a track we are having to start from scratch.
“There is a lot of work to be done on the bike between now and then so hopefully we will get the engine tuned and a few other new parts.
“To me it is all about improving at the minute and if we can get the new parts and get the engine sorted then I am sure we can do well in Scotland and if we keep improving I’ll be happy.”
Another rider hoping for a change of luck in Scotland will be Mirror.co.uk Cup rider Kenny Gilbertson who is sitting seventh in the overall standings having failed to finish half of the season’s races.
But Gilbertson believes a return to the happy hunting ground of Knockhill – the 22-year-old finished third in last year’s Superstock race there - couldn’t be better timed.
“I’ll be back and pressing hard because it is a track I usually go well at,” said Gilbertson. “Last year the race went well in the Superstock and even though I haven’t been up there very often I seem to ride well there.
“The Kawasaki is a bike you have to work quite hard on any track but Knockhill is hard work anyway so that suits the bike.
“I did the Superbikes there last year on my Superstock bike and qualified 14th so hopefully I can get up there and get in the top 20 – that’s the plan.”
