MOTOSPORT: Louise is back at Castle Combe

BISHOPSTONE’S Louise Colin returns to Castle Combe for the two 10-lap BSA National Kart Championship races with her Anderson 125cc kart tomorrow, writes CHRIS JAMES.

The event is part of a 17-race programme for its Summer Racing Carnival, with events ranging from single seaters, GTs, saloons and karts.

Colin, who has been competing in karts for over 20 years, has made a good start to the season with a win and a second place finish at Anglesey.

She has since added second and fourth places at both Snetterton and Cadwell Park and two fifth places at Darley Moor, also setting a new lap record and becoming the first person to lap a 125cc kart at over 100 mph at Britain’s fastest circuit, Thruxton.

James O’Reilly, from Nettleton, will line up in Sunday’s three 10-lap MSA British Super Kart Championship races in the Formula 250cc class with his Honda-engined PVP chassis.

In the Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 Championship, Cricklade’s David Tansley competes with his Class A Van Diemen RF99.

Swindon’s Oliver Bull, with a Class B Swift SC92 and Tom Margetson, of Cirencester, races his Reynard FF89 in the pre ‘90 Class C, where he is currently lying second in the class points standings, after winning his class last time out.

Andrew Jones, from Castle Combe, who is currently second in the Class A standings with his Ray GRS 07 is among several Castle Combe Championship regulars who are also competing in the visiting 12-lap Webcon UK Club Formula Ford National Championship race.

The two 12-lap Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship in association with National Mobile Windscreens sees Yatton Keynell’s Jason Cooper in the overall lead of the series with his Class D Ford Fiesta.

Latton’s Jonathan Wills returns to the series with his MG Maestro Turbo, following an accident at the Easter Monday meeting. He will be joined on the grid by Freshbrook’s Wayne Osborne in his Ford Puma.

Cooper will have a busy weekend, also competing in the two Competition Car Insurance Ford Fiesta Championship races in the ST Class.

Sunday’s 90-minute, two-driver Britcar Production & GT Championship has attracted notable entries including British Touring Car drivers, father and son duo Mike and Andrew Jordan in a Ginetta G50 GT and former BRM Formula One Grand Prix driver Mike Wilds, who shares a BMW 320i with Ian Lawson. Swindon’s Dave Allan pilots the Synchro Motorsport Honda Civic Type R on his own.

The two 20-minute Dunlop European TVR Challenge races will see Cirencester’s Hugh Marshall out in his Ashton Geo/MLPA Surveyors Tuscan, 30 years after he made his racing debut at the track in a Renault 5 in 1979.

The weekend gets underway tomorrow with qualifying from 8.40am, with the first of seven races from 2.10pm.

Sunday starts with qualifying at 8.45am with three races in the morning from 10am, followed by further Superkart qualifying and a lunch break, featuring a public grid walk, ahead of the Britcar 90 minute race which starts at 12.45.

Saturday admission is £8 for adults, OAPs £4 and children and paddock transfer free.

Sunday’s charges are £15 for adults, OAPs £7.50 with children free. Paddock transfer is only £2.50.
