TABLE TENNIS: Dukes avoid latest hazard to grab Nomads top spot

BARRY and Alan Duke of Swindon Nomads A proved too strong for Nomads C as they won 5-0 in the Cirencester tabel tennis league.

Although the scoreline was convincing their opponents did get close to avoiding a whitewash with two five set games. They eventually lost in the doubles 10-12 in the final set.

The win moved Nomads A into top position in Division One with The Believers, who won 3-2 away at Nomads B thanks to Russell Hayward and Lesley Slack, close behind in second with a game in hand.

While in Division Two, Nomads D continued to dominate as they won 4-1 and 5-0 against Chedworth A’s and The PC’s respectively, with wins coming from Ray Butt and Dave Evans.

However, Sandford Link also had two good away wins 5-0, and 4-1 at The PC’s and Rangers to keep a firm grip on second place. Newcomers to the league this season the Lateones have moved into the top position of Division Three after three straight comprehensive wins.

The winter league is now coming to a conclusion after Divison Two was split in half with all teams carrying forward their existing points.

A summer league, which has been scheduled to start in the middle of April, upon the conclusion of the winter program is now taking shape.

Entry forms have been distributed to all the current winter teams, however if anyone else is interested please contact league secretary. Andrew Jarvis at: andrew.jarvis7@btopenworld.com.
