SHRIVENHAM co-manager Alan Dyton’s rant in the Adver yesterday about players dropping out of matches was spot on.
I have to say that it’s pleasant for me to read comments from a manager where he’s actually saying what he’s thinking.
A lot of local football bosses beat around the bush so fair play to Alan that he has come out and said it.
And I agree with him. When the journeys get long late in the season, players don’t like it, so they come up with reasons to miss games like that they are working.
Players do use that line a lot but it’s often a load of rubbish, especially when I know some of them are self-employed.
They come up with all the excuses under the sun but ultimately, if they were playing in a cup final, would they do it? No, of course they wouldn’t.
Reading what Alan’s been saying in the paper recently, he’s had quite a big shock since coming back into management, in terms of how the players have behaved.
As I know from experience, when players have a bad attitude and a lack of commitment, those are things that make football unenjoyable when you’re a manager.
On a different subject, Highworth Town have not had Hellenic League games for the last two weekends.
But then the league are happy to send them on long trips in midweek. What’s that all about?
This always seems to happen to the sides based around Swindon, it never happens to the Oxford teams. They get a lot of bias towards them.
I was at Highworth for five years and it seemed we were forever being sent miles away in midweek.
It’s ridiculous that Highworth had no Saturday games and then they get sent down to Binfield on a Monday night.
Which brings me to another point - why do Binfield insist on playing on a Monday?
The Hellenic League should bring everyone into line and make them play midweek games on a Tuesday or Wednesday. End of story.
