MOTORCYCLING: Bridewell shrugs off Cadwell call

TOMMY Bridewell has vowed not to let a controversial disqualification throw him off his bid for a top 10 finish in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championships.

The Etchilhampton rider, 22, was excluded from the first race of two at round nine at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, after being adjudged to have made an unsafe move to pass Buildbase Kawasaki rival John Laverty.

Quay Garage Honda rider Bridewell thought he had finished ninth, but the two appeared to touch as Bridewell made the approach with Laverty going down and later appealing the legality of the move to race officials, who ruled in his favour.

“They came to the decision that it was an unsafe move and threw me out which is obviously very disappointing,” said Bridewell – who finished eighth in race two.

“I went up on the inside and John Laverty just came across me and crashed. It was just one of those things that happen in racing.

“I just love riding the machine so much and I am going to do everything that is legally possible to finish as high as I can.

“But that’s racing and it is hard to pass at Cadwell Park. They obviously do know what they’re talking about and what they said was a fair comment.”

Bridewell, currently 11th overall, will return to the track at Croft in less than two weeks time and has vowed not to let the decision to disqualify him hang over him.

“I felt it was the wrong decision but we just have to move on,” he added. “It is not going to slow me down though and I will get to the front if I can.

“These things happen and sometimes things don’t go your way when you want them too. I just have to get on with it now.”
