Ross Jones, 23, won his first Somerset county championship in a gripping finale at Enmore Park.
The plus-one handicapper from Orchardleigh birdied the final two holes to beat home player Alex Kippen, 18, by one shot.
He played alongside two fancied players - Bath's Colin Edwards who was bidding to win a record 12th title and Clevedon's Dan Perrett, the British Mid-Amateur champion, but they dropped shots at vital moments to slip out of contention.
Bath's Charlie Cossins also had cause to celebrate as he was awarded the Mike Tilke Trophy as the best colt. Alex Kippen won the Arthur Evans Cup as the best junior.
Then Jones broke Bath's amateur record with an opening 66 and equal the professional record on the way to winning the Championship of Bath. It was previously held by Duncan Whittaker, a three-times winner of the championship, with 67.
Although Cossins carded 68 in the second round Jones followed with 70 to beat Bradley Whittock (Saltford) by five shots with Cossins third on 143.
Bath captain Hans Bang raised £7,000 for Dorothy House from his Captain's Charity Golf Day.
