SWINDON Town have signed defender Aden Flint from non-league Alfreton Town.

The centre-back has moved to the County Ground for £150,000 - a club record for the Conference North side, with Town beating off Colchester United for the 21-year-old's signature.

Flint held talks with both clubs this week, with Flint agreeing a two and a half year contract with Danny Wilson's men.

Alfreton chairman Wayne Bradley told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "Aden has chosen Swindon.

"We are now in negotiations to see if we can get him back for the remainder of the season."

Flint has made 24 appearanes for Alfreton this season, scoring three goals, having joined them in the summer of 2008.

He earned an England C cap in September.

Bradley aded: "Aden has been the subject of interest from a lot of clubs in the Football League since the summer.

"We rejected an offer from Luton Town and Derby County were one of 10 or more clubs who were interested – but I wouldn't budge on our valuation of the player.

"Colchester and Swindon both met that valuation last week and the offers were accepted.

"I believe this is good business for Alfreton Town Football Club and good business for the player.

"We do have a duty of care and, in this instance, it would have been very, very wrong to have said 'no', because he is a key member of the team. We would have been letting him down.

"I think if we had stood in his way, it would affected our ability to recruit young talent in the future.

"We plucked Aden from a very low level and what a great advert for Alfreton Town that we have turned him into a player that League One clubs are interested in."

The Swindon deal is believed to include a 20 per cent sll-on clause.
