A 12-YEAR-OLD beat top snooker star Stephen Lee in a one-frame shootout on Saturday.

In a charity exhibition at the 147 Snooker Club, Jacque Chomiw triumphed against the former world number five on a re-spotted black.

The Commonweal pupil knocked in a break of 28 to begin the frame, before Lee hit back to take the lead.

However, Chomiw kept his head and sunk pink and black to ensure the contest went down to a re-spotted black.

Lee attempted an outrageous table-length double and left a tricky pot into the centre pocket, but Chomiw rolled it in to take a memorable win.

A regular at the 147 Club for practice sessions, Lee faced nine other players during the evening, which was organised to raise much-needed funds for the Cots for Tots Appeal.

Karl Paul, a partner of local business Dangly Carrot Marketing Solutions who plays at the 147 Club, helped organise the event.

His company recently signed up to the Cots for Tots Business Challenge, where 100 businesses were sought to raise £1,000 each by December.

The firm, who are widely connected in the local and national snooker scene, asked Lee if he would take part and the cueman was happy to provide his talents to help raise funds.

The charity is very close to the heart of Paul, who lost his son Oscar in July last year after his partner gave birth prematurely.

Paul said: “Our family and friends have been raising money for the charity for the past year and when I heard of the business challenge it seemed the natural thing to do.

“Since losing our son we have wanted to do what we can to help others and to give something back to those who helped us.

“As a whole the evening was a great success and we managed to raise £1,305 for the charity as well as everyone involved having fun.

“I would like to thank Stephen for his time, all who attended and played and United Radio Cars, Domino’s, Snookeru.com, Stuart Hindon and Corinne Paul for their support.
