TROWBRIDGE Town boss Mike Alford claimed his side didn’t deserve their thrashing, but admitted that the Bees never recovered from going down to 10 men in the first half.
With Trowbridge a goal down around 20 minutes in, full-back Mike Hill conceded a penalty for a last-ditch challenge and was sent for an early bath.
Winterbourne went on to run riot at Woodmarsh, with former Chippenham Town striker Jack Pitcher netting a brace for the Bristol side.
Emilio Menghini pulled a goal back for Trowbridge in the second period.
“I think that the referee was the only one who thought it was a penalty and that meant he had to send Mike off,” said Alford.
“It took us until half-time to re-adjust our team and by that time, we were four goals down. I thought that we were the better side to start with and the score doesn’t really show that.
“You couldn’t fault the commitment and attitude of the players whatsoever.”
Trowbridge have been dealt a blow with the news that Sean Fordham will miss the rest of the season after snapping his knee ligaments playing for AFC Melksham in the Chippenham Sunday League. Ian Groves has also picked up an ankle injury.
