ANGLING: Withy on a lofty perch after reeling in Airsprung match win

MICK Withy, from Westbury, carried off top prize in Sunday’s Airsprung match with 3lb 11oz of perch, followed by Richard Whitmarsh, from Frome, with 2lb 1oz 8dm of roach.

Bradford’s Ian Stainer was third with 2lb 1oz of roach.

Other placings: 4. Mick Stowford Frome 1lb 5oz 8dm; 5. Tony Scott Trowbridge 13oz; 6. Tom Ince Trowbridge 11oz.

Nigel Hiscocks, fishing for Pewsey, enjoyed an outstanding day in his club’s match against Calne, taking 15lb 6oz of chub.

Chris Rushton, of Pewsey, was runner up with 6lb of chub, followed by Calne’s Bryan Johnson with 5lb 6oz of chub.

Other placings: 4. Pete Mills Calne 4lb 12oz; 5. Gary Dodson Calne 3lb 7oz; 6. Paul Cadogan Calne 3lb 4oz.

The Wilts Angling Open match at Todber Manor on Sunday produced some of the best fishing of the weekend as Tony Gilbert, from Melksham, won with 112lb 8oz of carp.

Holt’s Pete Neate was next with 88lb 2oz of carp, followed by John Atkins, from Trowbridge, with 87lb 1oz.

Other placings: 4. Kevin Rowles Devizes 62lb 2oz; 5. Dave Bancroft Trowbridge 61lb 10oz; 6. Rob Kepner Chippenham 56lb 10oz.

CHRIS Cotterell chalked up wins on consecutive days at Ivy House Fishery at the weekend.

He claimed Saturday’s Open match with 40lb 7oz of carp and silvers, ahead of Paul Connor with 38lb 13oz of carp and silvers and Frank Domachie (Rolffs) with 36lb 3oz.

Paul Ogbourne, of Ivy House, was fourth with 29lb 4oz. Cotterell also claimed the silvers prize with 6lb 7oz.

He then won the Sunday Open match with 24lb 2oz of carp and silvers from the same peg as the previous day.

Paul Dressler, of Ivy House, was runner up with 16lb 2oz of carp and silvers, followed by Vince Shipp, of Westerleigh, and Kendal Barry, of Ivy House, with 11lb 14oz. Barry took the silvers prize with 6lb 8oz.

THE colder weather affected weights in the Lavington match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Horton where Hilperton’s Don Keates won with 2lb 6oz of roach and perch.

Kevin Morris, from Devizes, was next with 2lb 1oz 8dm of roach and skimmers and there was a tie for third between John Painter, from Bradford, and Jim Escott, from Melksham, with 1lb 14oz of roach and perch.

Other placings: 5. Andy Jones Devizes 1lb 9oz 8dm; 6. Dave York Bradford 1lb 8oz 8dm.
