A FULL house of 120 saw seven home fighters in action at the annual Devizes Amateur Boxing Club dinner show at the town’s football club on Saturday.

The 10-bout show was opened by Jack Ball in a skills contest against Paul James of Tadley & District ABC from Basingstoke.

Harry Edwards faced his toughest opponent to date in John Corson, from Weymouth, Edwards digging deep in the final round to gain a majority points decision.

Ashley Wilkins claimed a unanimous points verdict over Jordan Blyth, from Tadley & District ABC, his superior strength influence the contest.

The first Devizes senior of the night was Liam Wilkins, up against former Welsh junior champion Deago Smith, from Newport, whose work rate and accuracy were telling as he took a convincing points decision.

In only his second outing, Josh Lyons lost out to Brian Coloma, from Weston Warriors ABC in a crowd-pleasing contest.

Royal Engineer Jules Kitchen, in his first contest representing Devizes, took on Aaron Beckford, of Droitwich ABC, Kitchen appearing to be on top until he took three perfectly-timed shots on the chin, forcing a standing eight count in round two.

Kitchen came back well, coming out the winner on a close points decision.

Jack Fisher, who cemented his reputation as a knockout expert, by dispatching southpaw Carl Maisey, from Fitzpatricks ABC in Swindon, landing a fierce right hand on his opponent’s chin to end the contest.

The best winning boxer of the evening trophy was presented Devizes schoolboy Ashley Wilkins with the best runner up of the evening trophy going to Lyons.

Fisher will represent Wiltshire and Gloucestershire at the Grand Hotel in Bristol tomorrow (Friday) and Ball travels to Droitwich on Saturday to represent Devizes for the fourth time this season.
