LASSE Bjerre is hopeful his specialist track knowledge can prove the difference when the Swindon Robins travel to King’s Lynn this evening.

The young Dane has represented the Norfolk Arena side in both the Premier League and Elite League since beginning his British career in 2010, and the Robins have drafted him into their side at reserve to make use of his understanding of the track.

The Robins left Norfolk with a 45-45 draw on their last visit with Bjerre top-scoring with 11, and the 18-year-old is hoping for a similar performance this evening.

“I know the track at King’s Lynn very well, and when I raced for Swindon there before I had a very good meeting and scored 11 points, and I will be going there and trying to do it again,” he said.

“I am lucky in this meeting because I do have some good knowledge of the track, and I am hopeful I can use it to help the team win.

“But all of the riders in the Swindon team are strong riders, so I am sure they will ride well too and we will be a strong team.

“It is one of my favourite tracks to ride and I am happy to be going back there. The track is nice and grippy which is what I like because I like to ride the boards.”

Bjerre goes into the meeting in superb form having won the Pride of the Midlands individual event at home track Leicester on Sunday against a strong Premier League field, and is pleased with the progress he is making this season.

“I am happy with how things are going in the Elite League at the moment, but it is a hard league and I have to keep working at it,” he said.

“I am pleased with the amount of meetings I have been able to get in for Swindon so far, and the more I have the better I will be.

“Things are going well in the Premier League too, and I was really happy to win the Pride of the Midlands event at Leicester because it was a big event for me.”

As well as being back in familiar territory this evening, the Dane will also be in familiar company in Norfolk having raced with the majority of the Stars’ side, and Bjerre is well aware of the threat the likes of Niels-Kristian Iversen and Mads Korneliussen can pose.

“I obviously know their guys well, especially the Danish guys, and I know they are all very good racers,” he said.

“It can often be quite strange to race against guys you know so well, but that is part of racing and I will be out there trying to win every race.

“Niels-Kristian is riding very well at the moment and will be hard to beat, but if we can we know we can win.”
