CYCLE SPEEDWAY: Swindon see off Hellingley

SWINDON Cycle Speedway club battled all the way to secure a hard-fought 93-85 victory over Hellingley at the Oasis.
The home side were without Shaun Rudman who was on Premier League duty for Oxford, meaning they faced an uphill battle throughout a tough meeting.
The two sides were level after the first five heats were all drawn, but Swindon fell behind thanks to a 6-4 Hellingley win in heat six and a 7-2 win in heat eight after James Baily picked up an exclusion.
However, the home side dug deep and pulled out a succession of heat wins in the second half of the meeting to claim victory.
The Combination team match proved to be just as exciting as the senior match, with Swindon winning the match 105-91 as a result of penalty points awarded for both teams using a number of riders from the senior match.
Racing returns to the Oasis on Saturday, September 8 when Southampton are the visitors, and the following day when East Newport provide the opposition.
