SWINDON & DISTRICT LEAGUE: A goal-packed opening day

IT RAINED goals on the opening weekend of the Swindon & District League with 65 scored across the two divisions.

That total worked out at an incredible average of eight goals a game, the highest-scoring match being Queensfield’s 10-2 Premier Division annihilation of Lower Stratton .

The Jack brothers caused their usual damage with Mikey hitting a hat-trick and Adam Bagging a brace.

Daniel Hiscocks also weighed in with a hat-trick and Calvin Spencer and James McMurry grabbed the remaining efforts.

Elsewhere, experienced striker Dave Slattery registered for Fratellos as they came from behind to beat Spectrum 3-2.

Spectrum took a 1-0 lead but Slattery equalised when he converted a penalty midway through the first half.

The lead was Spectrum’s again before half time, but Fratellos came charging back in the second period.

Giovanni De Sando levelled matters with a super strike and father-to-be Aaron Barton added a cheeky third to ensure the win.

Carl Wheeler collected a double in Swiss Chalet Rangers’ 3-1 win at Highworth Town A.

Daryl Herring got Rangers’ other goal while Lee Andrews scored Highworth’s consolation.

Auto Engine Tune defeated Village Inn 5-3 courtesy of a hat-trick from Steve Winchcombe and a brace from Wayne Savoury.

Meanwhile, in Division One, there was an emphatic winning start for Old Town , who disposed of Larry’s Plaice 9-1.

Fox and Hound edged a 6-5 blockbuster against Ramsbury while Tap and Barrel thrashed Ferndale WMC 6-1.

Swindon Spitfires began life in their new division with a 4-4 draw against Sportz Central.
