SWINDON ROBINS: Doyle wants to put on a show against his old club

This Is Wiltshire: Swindon Robins rider Jason Doyle Swindon Robins rider Jason Doyle

FORGOTTEN man Jason Doyle is determined to remind the Poole fans of just what he is capable of when he returns to Wimborne Road with the Swindon Robins this evening.

The Australian was part of the victorious Pirates side which won the Elite League title last season, but missed both legs of the final with Eastbourne after aggravating a shoulder injury.

Despite riding in 32 meetings for Poole last season Doyle feels like he was forgotten, and is desperate to perform well when he takes on his former club in the battle of the top two this evening.

“Not being in the last two meetings of the year for Poole really hurt me because I had worked all year for it,” he said.

“They forget you really and forget you have done more than 30 meetings in the year to get you to that point, and that hurt quite a bit.

“Middlo (Pirates boss Neil Middleditch) got me up on the podium after we won and that was nice because it showed he didn’t forget me, because a lot of the fans did.

“I know I go well around Poole and now that I am fit I think I can go there and score some big points.

“The situation doesn’t bother me to be honest, because I have been to Poole enough to know that every one of us has to be putting in 110 per cent if we are to get anything.

“They are a stronger side now in a way, but our team has been together all season which is good because it is a good recipe for success.”

Doyle has been struggling with a jaw injury he suffered in Poland last Sunday, but rode through the pain against Belle Vue on Thursday night, scoring 9+2.

“The pain was quite hard to deal with at times, but I just had to get out there and race,” he said.

“I sort of wish I had taken a night off against Belle Vue because of the pain, but mainly because I blew an engine in my last ride which was tough.

“But we won, and that is the main thing and I was glad to play a part.”
