RUGBY: Royal Wootton Bassett 20 Frome 13

ROYAL Wootton Bassett celebrated a new name and a new home in style as they opened their league campaign with a win.
The hosts, playing at their new home of Ballards Ash, got off to the ideal start when debutant Hamish Keith gathered a lose kick and started a counter-attack that saw new skipper Nick Parker touch down.
Number eight David Hogg added the conversion but Frome responded with a penalty and then a try as the Bassett scrum was driven backwards.
Bassett – with 11 of the starting line up having graduated through the club’s colts set-up – hit back as Hogg booted a penalty after working their way into Frome territory, but the visitors wrestled back the initiative with a second try after a succession of set-pieces.
As the penalty count stayed high in the second half, another clinical counter-attack allowed wing Andy Phoenix to win the race for his own chip and chase, Hogg converting.
Phoenix then prevented a Frome try by bundling his opposite number into touch.
