JEMIMA Duxberry is preparing for the biggest test of her career so far but the Devizes judoka plans on treating her first ever European Junior Championships like any other competition.

The 17-year-old, who trains full-time at the University of Bath and is a student at Bath College, jetted off to Croatia today and will compete in the U63kg category on Saturday.

And, after claiming three European Junior Cup medals this year, she is targeting much more than simply gaining experience on her continental championship debut at junior level.

“I’m obviously a little bit nervous – I’m not too sure how to feel about it because I only got the letter to say that I’d been picked a few weeks ago,” said the Devizes Budo Club member.

“It’s my first time at the competition and it’s going to be a lot bigger than anything I’ve done before because we’re going to be in front of a big crowd and things like that.

“But I don’t want to be going there just to make up the numbers – there’s no reason why I can’t beat any of the other top players there.

“I just want to try and treat it like any other competition and that should give me the best chance of doing well.”

Duxberry was a senior bronze medallist at the Welsh Open in Cardiff last weekend as clubmate Charlotte Emery won silver and bronze at junior U44kg and senior U52 kgs level respectively. Amy Oram won a U44kg silver.
