RUGBY: Melksham 41 Minety 17

MELKSHAM reached the quarter finals of the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Vase with a five-try success over the villagers.

The home side, giving debuts to Lee Hockings, Lee Heath, Lee Stokes and Ashley Law, got the upperhand early on and went 6-0 in front through two Joe Hargreaves penalties.

The home side’s probing eventually brought its rewards as Johnny Mills went under the posts with Hargreaves converting.

A driving maul from a lineout sent Jerry Flower over the line, Hargreaves again adding the extras and David Dyke concluded the first-half scoring, Hargreaves again kicking the conversion.

Minety hit back just before the interval and Melksham were reduced to 14 men when Mills was sin-binned, allowing the visitors to add a penalty.

The Minety revival continued with a second converted try after half time and, in a scrappy second half, it wasn’t until the 75th minute that Mills’ run ended with another try, converted by Callum Hurn.

Hurn rounded it off with a try and a conversion.
