HOCKEY: Bassett are positive

WOOTTON Bassett chairman Alastair Pidgeon thinks the restructured league format is a positive development for his side.

Bassett were fifth in the Avon Division last season but Pidgeon is pleased with the constitution of his side’s new league and is backing his side to fare well.

“There were a lot of consultations with clubs ahead of the restructuring and we thought that it was a good idea back then,” said the Bassett chairman.

“In our new division, a lot of the long trips have been cut out and it seems to be a lot more regionalised, which I think is a good thing.

“There also seems to be a much clearer progression between all of the leagues and you shouldn’t have situations like in previous years where you’ve had to finish in the top six to make sure you aren’t relegated.

“Looking at the way our league’s made up, we’re content with it and we’re looking forward to this season.”

Bassett start the new season with a trip to Robinsons B.

Chippenham start their bid for league success in the new-look De Cymru & The Marches One division as they travel to face Cardiff & UWIC B v Chippenham at the Welsh Institute of Sport on Saturday.
