FA TROPHY: Chippenham Town 4 Swindon Supermarine 0 (From This Is Wiltshire)

CHIPPENHAM Town breezed into the draw for the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy is style with a dominant victory over local rivals Swindon Supermarine this afternoon.

Dean Griffiths marked his first Bluebirds start with two goals while strike partner Alan Griffin also weighed in with a brace.

Chippenham got off to the perfect start and were ahead just four minutes in when Tyrone Mings played in Griffiths down the left wing.

The striker cut back onto his right foot and crossed for Griffin to loop a header over the reach of Marine keeper Kent Kaupinnen and into the net.

Defender Mings had a header cleared off the line by Dave Bampton while Griffiths robbed the visitors’ Dan Wallington before drawing a good save from Kauppinen.

In the 20th minute, the Bluebirds' Iain Harvey survived a fervent handball shout from Marine after he slid to block Josh Parsons’ cross but referee David Ricketts was unconvinced.

The visitors’ Harry Etheridge lashed a shot wide before the hosts doubled their lead in the 23rd minute as a long ball forward was intelligently nodded by Griffin to put Griffiths through on goal.

Kaupinnen had no choice but to come out of his goal and the Chippenham striker lobbed the ball over his head and into the empty net to make it 2-0.

Brandon Barnes had a curling free-kick held by the Marine goalie and in the closing stages of the first half, the Bluebirds Conor Thompson was called into action to parry away Tom Cole’s effort.

The Bluebirds began in the second period in similarly storming fashion to the first and found the net just minutes in.

Scott Lye’s corner was eventually headed back towards goal by Griffin and Griffiths was on hand to nod home from close range.

Chippenham were now in total control and they got their fourth of the afternoon in the 67th minute when Griffiths played the ball out to substitute Josh Egan, who flashed a cross into the box from the right-wing, which was poked home at the far post by Griffin.

Lee Phillips almost made an instant impact after he came off the bench midway through the half, with the striker firing just past the post after latching on to Barnes’ pass.

Then with minutes left on the clock, the visitors’ bad day at the office was rounded off as TJ Bohane was shown a second yellow card for a late challenge on Mings.
