Here we go again

SUPERMARINE first team coach Gavin Russ believes tomorrow’s derby day date with Wootton Bassett is the perfect time to kick-start the club’s season.
Marine have lost all three of their games since earning promotion to Southern Counties South at the end of last season, but have played against promotion favourites Trowbridge and Sherborne.
But tomorrow they host a Bassett side only one place above them in the table, and Russ sees no reason why they can’t claim their first victory.
“It is a great game to be involved in, but our first three games have been really tough,” he said.
“We have had a baptism of fire really so we are looking forward to the game at the weekend and we want to get that first win under our belts.
“If the players can’t get themselves up for this one then they are never going to, so this is a great opportunity for us to get our season up and running.”
Russ has been impressed with the positive atmosphere around the club following their tough start to the season, and believes it will stand them in good stead.
“Training has been great this week, and everyone seems really keen to put things right which is a real positive sign for us,” he said.
“We knew it would be tough but I am pleased with the work ethic of the guys because they are upbeat and positive, and if we stay like that we will get a win I am sure.”
Wootton Bassett themselves have only won one of their opening fixtures, and centre Dave Martin is keen for his side to get back to winning ways and compound Supermarine’s misery.
“This is a derby game which hasn’t happened for a long time, and I can’t remember the last time the two teams played each other,” he said.
“It is an exciting prospect, but we will be going out there looking to get back to winning ways and we believe in ourselves.
“We don’t have the best record at the moment, but we will be going out there to compound their misery and get a win for ourselves.”
In the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier, Swindon College Old Boys go to Harwell looking to build on last week’s 21-9 victory at home to Gosford All Blacks.
