RUGBY: Devizes 2nd 8 Melksham 15

DEVIZES’ second-half revival proved in vain as Melksham claimed their third win of the Dorset & Wilts One North campaign.

The visitors, who handed Sam Kirk a first team debut, grabbed the early advantage after a scrappy start as Joe Hargreaves kicked a seventh-minute penalty.

Using the pick and drive game to good effect, Devizes fought back and Matty Holloran levelled with a penalty, but they then shipped two tries.

The first was a fine individual effort from winger Matty Glover, who gathered the restart and ran straight through the defence to go under the posts, Hargreaves converting.

Melksham added another score on the half hour as Glover again broke free and offloaded to centre Lee Heath who scored in the corner.

Devizes had the upper hand in the scrums and went close when Scott Franklin was held up over the line.

The home pack continued to dominate after the break and Melksham eventually cracked as Tim Alchin was rumbled over the line from a close-range scrummage.

Melksham lost Johnny Mills to the sin-bin with 10 minutes to go and he was followed by Sean Randall. But the 13 men held on.
